Couperose and vascular laser
Venous lip lake
A venous lip lake, also commonly known as a “varicose vein” of the lip, consists of a bluish-coloured, benign, soft-touch and generally well-demarcated vascular dilatation. Although these lesions are asymptomatic, they can bleed when rubbed and grow progressively over time. One of the main causes of their appearance is chronic sun exposure, trauma or certain genetic diseases; however, given their location, the diagnosis of actinic cheilitis, basal cell carcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma should also be considered.

Although surgery, sclerotherapy or even cryotherapy can be used, the fastest and most effective technique is usually the use of vascular lasers. Nd:YAG laser, pulsed dye laser or pulsed light can be used for this purpose.
By selecting suitable laser devices we can achieve definitive removal of the lesion in a single session. However, a repeat treatment may be necessary to make the lesion disappear completely. The treatment takes only a few minutes, depending on the number of shots required.
There is the possibility of applying anaesthetic cream prior to treatment, although the procedure is usually well tolerated. It is usually necessary to apply local cold immediately after the treatment to minimise adverse effects and reduce inflammation.
