Atrophic (sunken) scars
Atrophic scars appear after an inflammatory process that can result in collagen loss and thinning of the dermis. These types of lesions usually develop after chickenpox, trauma, or acne lesions (the most common cause), and usually present as a depression in the skin.

Depending on the appearance and location of these lesions, and the characteristics of the patient’s skin, we can perform a combination of treatments to improve their appearance, such as fractionated ablative and non-ablative laser, subcision, surgery and infiltration of filler substances such as hyaluronic acid.
Most procedures to improve the appearance of these scars are performed under topical and/or local anaesthesia and are therefore easily tolerated.
Although the degree of improvement usually depends on the patient’s ability to produce collagen after treatment, it is between 20 and 50%.
